she sat alone/
on a cold winter day/
there by the phone/
the clock ticking away/
she wants him home/
wants to hear his voice to make sure he’s still there/
the city’s dark though the streets are warm/
lit by a spark when he gets back home/
carries a mark of everything he’s had to fight and been forced to bear/

what do we know//

and she looks up at the starlit sky/
thinks of him and wonders why he’s gone/
and if he’ll ever make it home/
the empty space sleeping in her bed/
as her eyes are glued to the tv set/

but she tries to be strong/
